untitled1 Oregon Congressman/Part Time Superhero Dennis Richardson (R) Would Have Saved the Day If He Had Been a Teacher At Sandy Hook Elementary School And Had a Firearm HandyFor mortal human beings, there are many possible reactions to the recent tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut that left 26 innocent victims dead.  For instance, wailing in grief is quite popular right now, as is hugging one’s own children a little bit closer and thanking God they are still safe.  Meanwhile, others have participated in candle-light vigils or expressed their outrage at the gunman on Facebook. Some have even taken to writing snarky blog posts about the inappropriateness of other people’s reactions.

For superheroes, however, there is but one possible reaction to such a tragedy: to remind everyone that if you had been there at Sandy Hook Elementary School and had access to firearms, the innocent victims would still be alive today. And so, since Oregon State Rep. Dennis Richardson (R- Central Point) moonlights as a superhero in his free time, naturally his first reaction to the tragedy was to send this email to several school superintendents in his district:

From: “Rep Richardson”
Subject: RE: Preventable Tragedy in Connecticut
Date: December 14, 2012 2:53:06 PM PST
To: [redacted]

[redacted]:

The Sandy Hook shootings are another heart breaking failure of school personnel to ensure the protection of innocent children and adults. Sadly, most of the deaths could have been prevented.

If I had been a teacher or the principal at the Sandy Hook Elementary School and if the school district did not preclude me from having access to a firearm, either by concealed carry or locked in my desk, most of the murdered children would still be alive, and the gunman would still be dead, and not by suicide.

When will our school officials open their eyes to the reality that law enforcement officers, in such instances as these, can respond only after the unfettered killings have occurred, and that our children’s safety depends on having a number of well-trained school employees on every campus who are prepared to defend our children and save their lives?

Is this the same nut job who was on the Sunday morning news shows saying that he wondered how things would have been different if the teacher who shielded students with her body had an M4 locked behind glass in the classroom? Because seriously, my reaction to that guy was, "dude, spare me your Call of Duty wet dreams."

Where have all the blue steel Democrats gone? Are they now all cotton candy Democrats?

Superhero Dennis Richardson comes from my old, very old, district in Oregon where it was a hanging offense to say you were for gun control, only then it was a flint steel hard Democratic district.

Our guys went to war and changed somehow when we lost. The superheroes mostly held our coats and did their heroics in boardrooms and bedrooms.

He's a decorated Vietnam veteran so I'll allow that MAYBE he might have had a different reaction and charged in guns a blazing and killed the shooter. However it's just as likely Richardson would have had a flashback and froze while thinking about Charlie and the tiger cages. Or he might have totally freaked out and used a kid as a human shield and tried to run away like the politician in 'The Dead Zone'.

He has no clue how he would have reacted. It's one of those extreme situations where you'll only know how you'll react until it unfolds.

For him to open his mouth a spew about his hypothetical bravado to score some cheap political points is ridiculous.

      Thank you, Fred.

I am sorry for a very bad guess that the hero congressman was probably a chickenhawk like so many others.

Always glad to learn I am a sloppy, unconscionable rumormonger.

      Best, Terry
