We don’t have a copyright-free photo of the guy, but we’re pretty sure he looks something like this, more or less.

BREAKING: It turns out you do not actually have  the worst boss in the history of the universe after all.

Well, unless you are one of the thousands of people who work for Westgate Resorts, a national timeshare company and one of the largest resort developers in the world. In that case, your boss is David Siegel, who is indeed a tremendous prick.

Siegel sent this email to all of his employees on Monday, warning that they would be fired if President Obama is reelected, because the tax burden would just be insurmountable for him. Which is interesting, because Siegel and his wife (31 years his junior, obviously) recently told Reuters that they were resuming construction on their dream home — which at 90,000 sq. feet will be the largest private residence in the United States — because his company is “the most profitable we’ve ever been.” (They seem like a lovely couple.)

Anyway, back to the email! First of all, the guy can’t even be bothered to write his own right-wing diatribe. The email is largely plagiarized from a popular chain letter circa 2008. He just threw in some braggy details about his own rags-to-riches story, and voila!

In case you are one of the productive 1% and don’t have time to read the whole thing, here’s our summarized version of the email in question:

Dear Valued Employees,

As your employer, I can’t tell you whom to vote for. But if you vote for Obama, I’ll retire to the Caribbean and you’ll all be fired (he actually says this).

It’s really unfair that Obama is always pitting you lower class peons against rich people like me. Where does Obama get the idea that there’s any kind of class warfare going on in America?? Don’t you believe it for a minute. Seriously, don’t believe it, or I’ll fire you.

Don’t hate the playa, hate the game.

Signed, your boss (he actually signs it “your boss” in case they didn’t know)

For those of you who are part of the lazy 47% (and, come on, you’re surfing this website, so clearly you’re not part of the productive class), here’s the actual, long-version of the email via Gawker (bolding theirs):

Subject: Message from David Siegel
Date:Mon, 08 Oct 2012 13:58:05 -0400 (EDT)
From: [David Siegel]
To: [All employees]

To All My Valued Employees,

As most of you know our company, Westgate Resorts, has continued to succeed in spite of a very dismal economy. There is no question that the economy has changed for the worse and we have not seen any improvement over the past four years. In spite of all of the challenges we have faced, the good news is this: The economy doesn’t currently pose a threat to your job. What does threaten your job however, is another 4 years of the same Presidential administration. Of course, as your employer, I can’t tell you whom to vote for, and I certainly wouldn’t interfere with your right to vote for whomever you choose. In fact, I encourage you to vote for whomever you think will serve your interests the best.

However, let me share a few facts that might help you decide what is in your best interest. The current administration and members of the press have perpetuated an environment that casts employers against employees. They want you to believe that we live in a class system where the rich get richer, the poor get poorer. They label us the “1%” and imply that we are somehow immune to the challenges that face our country. This could not be further from the truth. Sure, you may have heard about the big home that I’m building. I’m sure many people think that I live a privileged life. However, what you don’t see or hear is the true story behind any success that I have achieved.

I started this company over 42 years ago. At that time, I lived in a very modest home. I converted my garage into an office so I could put forth 100% effort into building a company, which by the way, would eventually employ you. We didn’t eat in fancy restaurants or take expensive vacations because every dollar I made went back into this company. I drove an old used car, and often times, I stayed home on weekends, while my friends went out drinking and partying. In fact, I was married to my business — hard work, discipline, and sacrifice. Meanwhile, many of my friends got regular jobs. They worked 40 hours a week and made a nice income, and they spent every dime they earned. They drove flashy cars and lived in expensive homes and wore fancy designer clothes. My friends refinanced their mortgages and lived a life of luxury. I, however, did not. I put my time, my money, and my life into this business —-with a vision that eventually, some day, I too, will be able to afford to buy whatever I wanted. Even to this day, every dime I earn goes back into this company. Over the past four years I have had to stop building my dream house, cut back on all of my expenses, and take my kids out of private schools simply to keep this company strong and to keep you employed.

Just think about this – most of you arrive at work in the morning and leave that afternoon and the rest of your time is yours to do as you please. But not me- there is no “off” button for me. When you leave the office, you are done and you have a weekend all to yourself. I unfortunately do not have that freedom. I eat, live, and breathe this company every minute of the day, every day of the week. There is no rest. There is no weekend. There is no happy hour. I know many of you work hard and do a great job, but I’m the one who has to sign every check, pay every expense, and make sure that this company continues to succeed. Unfortunately, what most people see is the nice house and the lavish lifestyle. What the press certainly does not want you to see, is the true story of the hard work and sacrifices I’ve made.

Now, the economy is falling apart and people like me who made all the right decisions and invested in themselves are being forced to bail out all the people who didn’t. The people that overspent their paychecks suddenly feel entitled to the same luxuries that I earned and sacrificed 42 years of my life for. Yes, business ownership has its benefits, but the price I’ve paid is steep and not without wounds. Unfortunately, the costs of running a business have gotten out of control, and let me tell you why: We are being taxed to death and the government thinks we don’t pay enough. We pay state taxes, federal taxes, property taxes, sales and use taxes, payroll taxes, workers compensation taxes and unemployment taxes. I even have to hire an entire department to manage all these taxes. The question I have is this: Who is really stimulating the economy? Is it the Government that wants to take money from those who have earned it and give it to those who have not, or is it people like me who built a company out of his garage and directly employs over 7000 people and hosts over 3 million people per year with a great vacation?

Obviously, our present government believes that taking my money is the right economic stimulus for this country. The fact is, if I deducted 50% of your paycheck you’d quit and you wouldn’t work here. I mean, why should you? Who wants to get rewarded only 50% of their hard work? Well, that’s what happens to me.

Here is what most people don’t understand and the press and our Government has chosen to ignore – to stimulate the economy you need to stimulate what runs the economy. Instead of raising my taxes and depositing that money into the Washington black-hole, let me spend it on growing the company, hire more employees, and generate substantial economic growth. My employees will enjoy the wealth of that tax cut in the form of promotions and better salaries. But that is not what our current Government wants you to believe. They want you to believe that it somehow makes sense to take more from those who create wealth and give it to those who do not, and somehow our economy will improve. They don’t want you to know that the “1%”, as they like to label us, pay more than 31% of all the taxes in this country. Thomas Jefferson, the author of our great Constitution, once said, “democracy” will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.”

Business is at the heart of America and always has been. To restart it, you must stimulate business, not kill it. However, the power brokers in Washington believe redistributing wealth is the essential driver of the American economic engine. Nothing could be further from the truth and this is the type of change they want.

So where am I going with all this? It’s quite simple. If any new taxes are levied on me, or my company, as our current President plans, I will have no choice but to reduce the size of this company. Rather than grow this company I will be forced to cut back. This means fewer jobs, less benefits and certainly less opportunity for everyone.

So, when you make your decision to vote, ask yourself, which candidate understands the economics of business ownership and who doesn’t? Whose policies will endanger your job? Answer those questions and you should know who might be the one capable of protecting and saving your job. While the media wants to tell you to believe the “1 percenters” are bad, I’m telling you they are not. They create most of the jobs. If you lose your job, it won’t be at the hands of the “1%”; it will be at the hands of a political hurricane that swept through this country.

You see, I can no longer support a system that penalizes the productive and gives to the unproductive. My motivation to work and to provide jobs will be destroyed, and with it, so will your opportunities. If that happens, you can find me in the Caribbean sitting on the beach, under a palm tree, retired, and with no employees to worry about.

Signed, your boss,

David Siegel

    a. we all go through the same tax brackets…so he's not paying 50% from the first penny.

    a. if i were making 10 million dolalrs per year, i'd be very ok netting 5 million

    b. maybe he should consider the fact that republicans sent us through 2 wars that were unfunded, and pushed thru medicare part d, which costs 272 billion per year w/o funding it

    c. now the romney/ryan genius club want to spend another 2 trillion on military projects…no one's asking them to..not even the penatagon

    d. ever consider the fact that if the middle class gets stronger, your hotels will do better, and you'll get paid more…would he rather earn 10 millino dollars at his 50% tax rate…or 1 million at Romney's rate….not such a bright CEO

For a guy that puts ALL OF HIS TIME AND MONEY BACK INTO HIS BUSINESS, where is he getting the money to build the BIGGEST HOUSE IN THIS ENTIRE COUNTRY??!!! Is he living that "lavish lifestyle" for free??!! I'm guessing those statements about "everything back into his business", are the same things he tells his employees, the same things he tells his wife(that wasn't even born by the time he could have started having GRANDCHILDREN!!), the same things he tells people who use his business, etc., etc., etc… Those things are called: LIES!! Just saying…

Before attacking him – did you actually read his email?

He is not threatening his employees – he just explaining that at some point being taxed as hell doesn't make sense to run a business …

As a business owner I think he also has good points about not having off switched, being taxed almost half of what you earn (this includes corporate tax) and working ass off to build a business.

How sad for you to be sucked into the lies of a Lying CEO. This country is built on wealth distribution that is EXACTLY why we pay taxes! So the country can pay for the things we need to keep our country moving and growing. The rich do not pay their fair share of taxes. He has to hire a whole team of people to do his taxes to see how many loop holes he can get away with to pay as low amount of taxes as possible. He's black mailing and bullying his employees!

What everyone, of course, will fail to realize (as they usually do) is that this man is 100% correct.

I don't blame him for packing up and leaving everyone behind for good, if all his hard work is going to get pissed down the drain from taxes to be given to lazy, worthless welfare recipients.

He didn't do all the work, make all the sacrifice for lazy welfare recipients.

If you truly don't believe that the Obama Administration is all about redistribution of wealth, from working to non-working, rich to poor, White to black, etc., then I suggest that you simply DO NOT VOTE COME THIS NOVEMBER, for you lack the common brainpower to see the obvious, let alone deserve the right to choose who our next Commander in Chief will be.

I am the 1%, and my money WILL NOT fall into your 99% hands so help me God. I'll leave the country before I allow it. Mind you, I haven't had any taxable income in over a decade (I inherited all of my wealth, and the Government couldn't touch a cent of it), so you haven't been getting any of it anyway. Go get a fucking job, stop whining, and pull your godamn pants up.

social welfare is an investment. I don't know how you got rich but the more people can afford health insurance, going to school, work, the more customers you will have.

don't make yourself sound like a rich spoiled brat and assume that poor people are poor because they don't like to work. many people dont havw the luck to have supporting parents or an intact family. social welfare is a way to give everyone at least the minimum opportunity to work their way up.

and breaking news: you live in a SOCIETY. Roads are being paid by your money, the military, two wars but you draw the line at the money being spent to help others??? what kind of person are you?!

that makes a better society overall. and paying a little more to ensure that you live within a more educated and better country is really too much?!

Hey Truth, You inherited your wealth without working yet you tell others to get off their ass? There has been redistribution of wealth for a very long time. As CEO's incomes go up at 500 times the rate of gdp they are redistributing the wealth to them and taking credit for growing the company. This clown Siegel says still to this day every single dime goes back into the company. Really…So how did this 90,000 square foot home get started? You didnt put a dime towards it? You think the success of your company is all your doing? None of your employees contributed to it? Guess what, They will be able to get other jobs when you fold up shop and go live on the beach. Feel free it is your right. When Obama wins I want you to strand behind what you said and shut the company down.Fire all of the employees because remember you have had enough. We are watching. I also now will make sure I never stay at a resort that you are involved in. I recommend all of your employees to walk now. Leave and find other work. Your employer is using scare tactics to change how you vote. Do not give in to him. He thinks he is the reason his company is successful…Everyone take a week off and let him run it and lets see how successful it is. I think he might get the point.

      Dear Truth,

In my opinion, he can have his opinion. He can close up shop and retire. He can lay-off and do whatever he chooses to do with his business. However, what is wrong here is his use of power over his employees to attempt to coerce them into voting for the candidate that he supports. Threatening his employees' jobs…really? It sounds like he is perfectly willing to leave the USA and retire, so he should not use his authority to coerce, simply do it! If you can't see that, then you really need some help!

why do you Americans fail to realize that those countries with a working social system are doing much better than the US?

I know rich people lose their sense for reality sometimes but social welfare is not about giving the lazy and those who are not willing to work. it is about giving everyone the base to be part of this society.

I live in Germany, we have no college fees + I got granted a student loan of 400 € a month which comes with no interest and which I only have to pay back up to 10000 € in total IF I make enough money. and guess what I will graduate next month and already have a job that earns me 45.000 a year.

this is called an investment. they have risks and not everyone receivin help will be successful but I am. We pay nearly 40% taxes in germany and that means I will pay back more than double of what was invested in me every single year. and I have no problem with it because I live in a country where no one has to be hungry, left without medical care or do desperate things for money.

maybe that's not important in the rich boys club but 99% of us actually like to live in a society like that :)

Welfare isn't being used by only one class or culture of people. Welfare and government assistance are being used by people of all cultures. It is plenty of people within the corporate world that are just like #David Siegel. Racism and Financial Greed seems to be the characteristics of most people managing or employing people within Corporate America. HR won't save #David Siegel employees' rights to vote. HR within #David Siegel corporation works for #David Siegel. I know how racism within the corporate world feels on a first hand basis. Or the hopelessness #David Siegel employees may feel right now. I had to listen to a person drunk with racism and power say, "People with blue eyes are smarter than people with brown eyes. People with brown eyes are better at confrontational sports than people with blue eyes. People with blue eyes are better at sports that consist strategy than people with brown eyes" within a corporate meeting. These racial statements were only a clever way of saying one race of people aren't as smart as another race of people. #David Siegel is instilling fear into his employees. This fear tactic is commonly used within the Republican party. No one desires to lose their job so he is using that fear against his own employees. At the same time, he is showing the world exactly how rich people thinks. #David Siegel doesn't realize that his employees have power with his company too. One day his employees may leave his azz wishing he never made this statement by boycotting him and his business. #David Siegel maybe rich but after he has to pay his enormous bills with savings for a while he will see his wealth disappear.

Here's the other side of the card on this guy: before thinking he is a "tremendous prick", it might be useful to know that, for years, even before he was this wealthy, he would step in and pick up medical bills, tuition and help his employees in financial straits. Never bragged about it or sought any sort of public acclaim. If you lived in central Florida you knew about it. He raised a fortune for United Way. His foundation still gives a ton of money to charity. He is self made and outspoken but he has created more jobs for people than just about any company in central florida except Disney or Universal.

      Dave,

Perhaps he has some empathy for those in need with whom he comes into direct contact. However, he seems pretty clueless as to what is going on in the "real world". He is most certainly a gigantic prick for sending this threatening email! Furthermore, maybe he paid for those things for his employees because he felt he wasn't providing for them the way a proper employer should. Perhaps he was providing cheap medical insurance and more than likely not paying living wages to his employees. And let's face it, even living wages do not get you into a life of luxury. Additionally, just because his "well to do" friends squandered all their money away, does not mean all Americans have done that! Maybe he should take his frustrations out on them.

It seems most honest people would love to be able to lie on a beach and not have any worries. As Jesus said, "worry cannot ad one day to your life". Everyone knows worrying is detrimental to one's health. But yet he is worrying about all his employees losing their jobs. He is really worrying about not being able to make more millions for himself. Who is he trying to fool, not most thinking people. If he cared about his employees he would be voting for President Obama, then maybe we can get affordable health care, affordable medications, affordable gasoline or actually alternative energy. Instead of fueling rich texans and muslims, we can start feeding Ameicans. He is worrying about his employees, he is not fooling anyone. Another bigot trying to hide his true feeling.

It doesn't matter what any of us think about the email to his employees. He told them the truth. Would you rather him thank Obama for promising to take more of his money? Call this man names, write hateful comments with profanity, say whatever you like. He has the same rights as those of you who are cursing him out. He is saying what he thinks. Now his employees will not be surprised when they get their pink slips if Obama wins. And, for those who don't like him, they can get another job.

First, I can't believe that it's even legal in your country to blackmail employees to vote for the candidate you want. That's not democracy.

Second, this CEOs threat is empty. His company is the most profitable it has ever been (see top of this article), which includes the effect of taxes. Raising them a little will certainly not cause him to want to shut down his company; he is just bluffing, since it would be more profitable to have Romney in power.

Even if Siegel does shut down his company, he will sell it to someone else, who will continue the profitable enterprise. Think about it… If Siegel makes enough to afford a 90,000 sq. ft. house, and the company is taxed a little more, then the new owner could still afford an 80,000 sq. ft. house (for argument's sake). The company will not cease to be profitable due to a little more taxes, so there will always be a market for another owner to buy this profitable business and continue to employee the same number of people.

Third, Obama has proposed to LOWER corporate taxes to 28%. Therefore, Siegel wouldn't lose out if Obama was elected. He just wants a Republican in power, so deregulation can continue unimpeded and Wall street can bankrupt the globe again by gambling without federal restrictions.

It's easy for the Republican side to feed lies to the populace, and scare them into voting for them. But you really need to do some of your own research on how the economy actually works, and whose legislation brought about the biggest global economic crisis in 80 years (Bush's republicans). Going back to the same policies will not create more jobs, as Romney would like you to think.

When he headed Bain, he shipped jobs out of the country by the tens of thousands. Bain purchased companies, fudged the numbers and laid off employees to make it appear that the company was profitable, took a $300 million dollar "management fee", and then the company went bankrupt less than two years after Bain earned their outrageous fee.

This is the economy that Romney knows; his firm got hundreds of millions of dollars, and the average middle class worker got fired.
