Arizona Legislature Trying to Ban Pretty Much Every Website Ever Created
You know how American states these days just have piles of cash lying around their capitol buildings, and no one knows what to do with it all? It’s a serious problem. But Arizona has come up with a clever solution. On Wednesday, the Arizona legislature passed a flamingly unconstitutional piece of legislation banning obscene language on the internet, apparently with the hope that Governor Jan Brewer will sign it into law so the state can spend all those Scrooge McDuck piles of coin litigating the non-starter in courts. The law would criminalize any speech on the internet that has “obscene, lewd or profane language or . . . suggest[ing] a lewd or lascivious act if done with intent to ‘annoy,’ ‘offend,’ ‘harass’ or ‘terrify.’”

The legislation actually has bi-partisan support. I think its supporters are well-meaning — they want to protect kids from online bullying — but the wording of the legislation is just laughably unconstitutional.
I mean, really? You can't say anything "profane" with the intent to "annoy" another person? This very website would probably fail that test.
